Ukraine war: Resilient civilians return to liberated town of Lyman 2023

 Two Ukrainian warrior jets thunder low above as we rise out of a thick, snow-bound woods and crash into the rail line intersection town of Lyman, in the Donbas locale of eastern Ukraine.

It is almost four months since Russian soldiers had to withdraw from here, pushed back some 25km (around 15 miles) toward the east. In any case, the blast of gunnery shoot, near the forefronts, is as yet perceptible like clockwork, and this town - quite a bit of it in ruins - isn't yet protected from Russian rockets.

"I live on the seventh floor. The rocket hit the fifth floor, early toward the beginning of today, at around five. Yet, I'm fine," says Alexander Rogovitz, a 73-year-old resigned money manager and the last inhabitant of a huge condo block on the edge of town.

He twists around to share out a dried food to the eight felines - seven of them strays, deserted by neighbors - he presently cares for.

That strength, and a solid aggregate soul, appear to be broad here, among the individuals who have gripped on in the midst of the snow and rubble.
